The APPI 2 Explorer Course is for pilots who have completed their first solo flight and wish to work towards becoming fully independent pilots at their home site. The skills introduced and developed in APPI 2 are later consolidated in the APPI 3 Pilot Course.
Objectives:
APPI 2 Explorer Course aims to introduce the further skills required in order to become an independent solo pilot.
Gain exposure to the additional techniques and concepts on their way to becoming a paraglider pilot.
Reach all objectives outlined in APPI 2 Explore logbook
As a minimum, complete 10 flights, with 1 unassisted takeoff and landing.
Description:
During the APPI 2 Course, the focus is placed on learning and gaining exposure to additional flying techniques such as crosswind takeoffs, faster descent methods, flying different approach patterns. Additionally, more theoretical concepts will be introduced to guide the decision-making process to mitigate risks in flying. Skills learned in the Beginner’s Course will continue to be consolidated.
As a minimum, you will need to complete 10 flights before completing the APPI 2 Explorer Course and be rated as APPI 2 Explore. However, more flights may be needed in order to cover objectives that may not have been covered due to weather or other factors.
Small-group class for maximum safety, maximum 1:3 instructor-student ratio.
Important Notes:
Skills Recency: At this stage of your training, you should be prepared to commit regularly to flying at a minimum of once or twice a week. We highly recommend that the student does their best to remain flexible with their schedule as the weather changes frequently and may affect your flying progression.
As an example: A student X is only available on Saturdays, over the past 2 weekends, the winds have been unfavorable for flying or ground handling. By the time the weather is favorable again, 3 weeks have already elapsed and student X has already forgotten most of what was previously learned.
Equipment: Students should have their own equipment by this point in training. This is to allow students to familiarize themselves with the equipment they will be using once they become fully independent from their instructor.
